Dreamweaver TutorialPage 1 of 7Dreamweaver TutorialGetting StartedAfter opening Dreamweaver for the first time you will be presented with the loading screen.Most of the options here are for advanced web design. To start with a blank webpage click on HTMLunder the Create New section. This will bring you to Dreamweavers Design View. This is where you can begin creating your webpage.Page 2 of 7If you already have more advanced knowledge of HTML you can also use the Split and Code views.These views allow you to see the actual HTML code while you are working. The Code View shows you only the HTML and the Split View is a combination of the Code and Design views.Setting up Your siteIf you are publishing your site on the web space provided to UVic students with a NetlinkID you will need to complete the following steps:1. Under Site on the top menu bar select New Site2. Select the Advanced tab3. In the Site Name field enter the name of your site4. Next to the Local Root Folder Section click the folder icon and create or select the folder that willhold the working copy of your website.5. In the Category list on the left of the window select Remote Info6. Choose FTP in the drop down menu7. In the FTP Host field enter unix.uvic.ca8. For Host Directory enter www/9. For Login and Password enter your NetlinkID and password10. Make sure that Use Passive FTP is checked11. Hit OKFormatting TextDreamweaver allows you to control the appearance and behaviour of the text on your website through CSSwhich stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Style sheets let you create classes for your document which specify attributes for the objects within the document that belong to that class.Page 3 of 7In the Dreamweaver design view you can enter text much like you would with a word processor. Once thetext is on the page you can create CSS classes or apply ones youve already made to it. To create a newCSS class:1. Click on the CSS button in the Properties panel.
