You will learn about databasedesign concepts and methods data models (EntityRelationship and Relational Model) thedatabase query language SQL and the various components of a database management system.Further topics include query processing and optimization techniques transaction processingand management and storage and file structures.The course is heavily designoriented. In most of the assignments you have to design andimplement a database using a commercial database management system (Oracle10g). In particular you will learn the database query language SQL and the development of applicationsusing PL/SQL and Embedded SQL. The database system used in this course is the Oracle10gdatabase management system.PrerequisitesECS 110 (Data Structures and Programming) is essential for this course.
