Content Inside:Managing Childrens Behaviour Page 1Managing Childrens Behaviour A range of factors can influence adverse behaviour in young children in preschool including their stage of development emotional social or environmental reasons. Separation and attachment difficulties for young children during the first few weeks and even months of starting preschool are very common. However for a few children this process is particularly distressing resulting in agitation and irrational behaviour. Sensitive and effective settling in procedures will usually help ease most of these children into the preschool. From birth onwards a young childs social cognitive and communication skills are rapidly developing. Developing and mastering these essential skills will help most children manage their ability to become independent solve problems and have their needs known and met. The preschool environment is an excellent place to develop these skills. However problems sometimes occur if a child constantly tries to communicate using nonverbal and verbal methods but fails it is understandable that this may result in undesirable behaviour. Establishing effective communication with all children in the setting should be of paramount importance for preschools. Children will practice different ways of communicating to discover themost effective for them. However this can sometimes be a problem if the method for communicating is unacceptable such as biting. Acceptable means of communication relative to the child stage of development should be encouraged to enable the child to interact appropriately. Learning to play cooperatively as part of a group takes time requiring careful modelling and scaffolding of acceptable interaction from adults. Most young children do not respond well to disruption in their lives and daily routines. Problems that occur at home can lead to a child having feelings of insecurity and fear.
