In picking a book for this report I began by searching for excerpts of each book. I only read one excerpt (FFN) which led me to believe that the book was all about how the fast food nation and the entire food industry hide what is really in the food by using general labels such as natural flavors and artificial flavors. The book does discuss what these terms really mean (this is a small portion of the book) but it is about a much larger problem. Everyone eats fast foods. It is an inherent part of our world. My ignorance of what the fast food industry really is led me to choose this book. 2) Who is Eric Schlosser and what is his history?Eric Schlosser is a National Magazine Award (for reporting) winning contributing editor of The Atlantic. He won the award for a 1994 article on marijuana and the law entitled More Reefer Madness. (Schlosser More Reefer Madness Online]) He does have two children who he allows to eat at McDonalds. Fast Food Nation is his first book based upon an idea from an article published in Rolling Stone. (Schlosser Fast FoodNation Online]) Contrary to expectations by the public he is not a vegetarian even after writing the book. However he does not eat fast food anymore; not for the unhealthiness or fears of disease but because of their labor practices and exploitations.Schlosser wrote Fast Food Nation because this is the type of material that he likes to cover: investigative reporting. It seems semialarmist similar to John Stossel in attempting to cause worry and concern when perhaps the system is okay. 3) What is Fast Food Nation about?The book covers several different topics and attempts to tie them together.
