PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 12000 members in 123 countriesPage 1Palmetto Dunes hosts Sept. 18 Wheelchair Pro Tennis Exhibition HILTON HEAD ISLAND S.C. Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center will kick off the 2006 Wheelchair Tennis Championships with a Wheelchair Pro Tennis Exhibition on September 18 at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition matches will feature Yann Mathieu the 30thranked mens wheelchair player and the No. 1 player in Canada and Claude Brunet the 50thranked mens wheelchair player in the world and No. 5 in Canada. Those two players and others will battle several of the Palmetto Dunes professionals in One Up/One Down matches. We hosted this exhibition last year and it was very well received said Palmetto Dunes Tennis Director John Kerr. It was certainly educational for me and a lot of the spectators that hadnt seen much wheelchair tennis. They talked about the special chairs they use and the rules are a little bit different they get two bounces there were some different things I dont think a lot of people knew about. They are amazing athletes said Kerr. To be able to serve out of a chair like that andthey can hit topspin hard everything and they move so fast. Its amazing. We are very proud to have them here at Palmetto Dunes. The Palmetto Dunes exhibition kicks off the $17500 ROHO/PTR Wheelchair Championships which will be played Sept. 2024 and features mens womens and quad divisions. Matches will be held at the Van der Meer Tennis Center Shipyard Racquet Club and Chaplin Park on Hilton Head Island. Some of the top wheelchair players in the world as well as novice and junior players will compete in this eventwhich is part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and ROHO Inc. will cosponsor the Wheelchair Champ ...
