SUBJECT E39 BMW Accessory Navigation System Speed Input SignalPage 1GROUP 8484 08 00Woodcliff Lake NJJuly 2000Phone Navigation SystemsService EngineeringSUBJECTE39 BMW Accessory Navigation System Speed Input SignalMODELE39 5 series vehicles manufactured after 06/99SITUATIONDuring the installation of the BMW Accessory Navigation System into E39 vehicles the speed signalinput (male pin # 3 in the connector X322) cannot be found.CAUSESince July of 1999 production the separate speed signal (SpeedA) output harness has beeneliminated from series production. The speed information is now made available to the connectedcontrol modules in the form of a telegram via the body bus (Kbus). By design the AccessoryNavigation System is not capable to extract speed signal information from the KBus.CORRECTIONWhen installing the BMW Accessory Navigation System into E39 vehicles manufactured after 06/99the SpeedA signal wire has to be fitted between the instrument cluster (pin # 3 of the 18pinconnector X10113 for the IKE or pin # 14 of the 26pin connector X11176 for the Kombi) and pinnumber 3 of the X322 connector (located in the rear left corner of the trunk).Such a modification is not covered by the BMW New Car Limited Warranty.PROCEDUREFor the SpeedA signal adapter harness useone of the wires from the Airbag RepairCable (P/N 61 12 8 386 368) and the malesocket connector P/N 61 13 0 007 452.SI E39 BMW Accessory Navigation System Speed Input SignalBMW AG TIS20.07.2001 17:48Issue status (05/2001) Valid only until next CD is issuedCopyrightPage 1 Page 21.Cut through the single wire from theAirbag Repair Harness at the lengthof 12 feet starting from the femaleSiemens connector.2.Strip off insulation at the end of thecut wire (stripped length 4.5 mm) andcrimp the male socket connector P/N61 13 0 007 452.
