WWF Organic Gardens in Schools Fund Information for Applicants Page 1WWF Organic Gardens in Schools Fund Information for Applicants IntroductionWWF the global conservation organisation has established a nationwide fund that provides financial assistance to primary intermediate and secondary schools thatcurrently have or want to have sustainable organic gardens as part of their environmental education programmes. Funding is available for Purchase of gardening materials seeds seedlings and tools Wages for garden facilitators from the school community Resources for teachers. Funding will not be available for teacher release time or professional development. Funding PrioritiesFunding priority will be given to applicants able to clearly demonstrate implementation of the three key elements of a sustainable organic school garden; Ongoing support from the wider school community Curriculum integration with classroom teaching programmes Sustainable organic gardening practice. Fund Structure WWF offers two funding rounds per year spring and autumn with an annual disbursement of at least $20 000 for at least three years. All schools in New Zealand are eligible to apply. Applications may be submitted on behalf of the school by any member of the school community but approval from the Principal and Board of Trustees is required. Applications are assessed by a Fund Management Committee. Maximum grants allocated per applicant will be $3000. Assessment Criteria Applications will be assessed using the following criteria: Section One: Community Supporta) A garden facilitator from the school community is employed (paid or voluntary) to manage ongoing maintenance of the garden work with small groups ofchildren and provide technical support to teachers. b) Where appropriate local Iwi have been consulted to ensure the garden site and practice is appropriate to local cultural values. c) The garden is supported ...
